Wring out your tension and loosen up you back

Have you ever been sitting in your office chair and your shoulders feel like they are next to your ears, and you whole back is aching. This pose will help you wring the tension out and loosen up your back.

Sitting on the edge of your chair, plant your feet firmly on the ground. Rest your hands on your knees and take a deep breath in and out, heck take 3 or 4, you probably need it. (I find throughout the day I don't breathe deeply and taking a few deep breaths really can easy the tension).

On your next inhale extend through your spine, making sure your shoulders are above your hips, and your ears above your shoulders. Lengthen that spine! On your exhale place your right hand on your left knee (or the arm of your chair if that is comfortable), keeping the spine long and lengthening through the crown of your head.

Take 10 deep breaths, on each inhale lengthening the spine, on each exhale, twisting from the middle of your spine just a little bit more if that is in you today (we are talking millimeters here). Be cautious not to twist from the low spine, you don't want to aggravate any low back issues.

Come back to the center and feel the difference. Now, do the other side.

I find that this pose right after I've done the shoulder rolls I've shared previously is a great way to loosen up my back and relieve a bit of stress. You can even do this while on conference calls, they will never know!
